Geneses Chapter One

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them............... 31 vAnd God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

In this verses the Bible clearly states that God created human being both male and female in his own image and he declared that everything he has made including the human being is VERY GOOD. But it does not say which colour which means all human beings black, white, brown and any other colour that is available is created in God’s image and he/she is very good.

In line with this Biblical teaching I would like to advice my fellow South Sudanese women specially those who are Christians to stop bleaching themselves in order to look more “beautiful”. I know that for many years the whole world has been made to believe that black or dark skinned person is not beautiful and is inferior and anything black or dark is equal to bad which is why we have black market, black book, dark days etc.

I see this idea being reinforced in the mind of the society on daily basis in movies, advertisements etc. Even in South Sudan where almost 99 percent of people are black or dark skinned I usually see body lotions being advertise on billboards in Juba with white or very brown skinned ladies probably to tell the black or dark skinned women that they will become more “beautiful” if they use this lotions.

But please remember that you are not beautiful because somebody said you are but because God said you are. If you follow what people say you will be very confused because others will tell you that you are beautiful and others will tell you that you are not beautiful which is why they say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder We also have a saying in Dinka language that "Ngek a lang mi nhiar de" (everyone has his/her lover). This means that there is no man or woman who is so handsome or beautiful that he/she is loved by everyone on earth and there is no man or woman who is so ugly or not beautiful that he/she is hated by everyone on earth too.

I grew up in cattle camp as a young boy and I used to make cows out of made for playing. When I make those cows, it is me who made them who knows which one is good and which one is bad and there is no way one of the cows which I have just made can tell the other cow that you are bad and I am good. How will that cow know that he/she and not the other is good? and if I who made them have declared that they are all good, where does one of the cows get the authority from to declare him/herself good and the other bad ?

In the same way God who made all of us has declared that we are all VERY GOOD, so there is no way another human being who was also made like you can tell you that you are not good and even if he/she does you should not accept his/her statement. You must accept God’s statement but not the statement of another human being at all.
Every blessing
